How i did it.

these are some images that i edited and took from the studio.
i used text on photoshop and edited the writing to make it look really nice. i added lots of colour to see how it would make the picture look, i changes some of the background image with a grain filter and used horizontal lines to give it a cool secret but bad kind of image, i added different kind off effects onto the dog image because it was lighter then the other image. so i gave it dark text with a light colour outline. the the right image i give it bright colour writing so that people could read it, i did this because the background was really dark that you could not really see anything. i kept the background image quite natural because that was the client asked for.

these are some screen shots of me changing the text. and some images.

the was that i took the images of dan, i was in the studio with the lights. these are the light settings that i used. i did not take any images because my old memory card with the images went missing. the items from the studio that we used was the soft box and the beauty dish. we used these to bring out the colour of my models face, and so you can see more details on him and his clothes. we turned off all the lights and added a brighter light but moves it back so you can get a little bit more detail. at the end we turned all the lights from one side off so his right side was lighter and more detailed.

information on how to CD cover

So many Photoshop tutorials that are online today make the design process look like it is just one flawless process from start to finish. Any good designer will tell you that it is more about trial and error and finding combinations of elements that look good together.
In this tutorial, I will walk you through the process I went through in creating this CD cover, rather than walk you straight through to the finished product.
You will notice along the course of the tutorial that I change elements of the design, play with the layout, and adjust finishing touches throughout the design process; this is how good design is created. Additionally, this tutorial is intended for those with a basic understanding of Photoshop.
Preparation
Our first step is to create a new document in Photoshop. CD booklets and covers tend to be around 4.75 inches by 4.75 inches. As such, you will want to create a new document in Photoshop with those dimensions. For the sake of this tutorial, we will want to keep the resolution to 72dpi. For print, you would obviously want to use a higher resolution (300dpi).
Step 1
First, find an image for your CD cover. I decided to go with this “group of guys” photo I found here on Shutterstock. It will make your life easier and your finished product better if the photo you are starting with is well-lit and has decent contrast. If your photo is very light, or very dark, it is going to be harder to achieve the cross-processing look we are going for.
Step 2
As aforementioned, your photo needs to have decent, if not great contrast. Creating a cross-processed image requires a good deal of contrast. I decided to bump up the contrast on my photo just a bit.
Image >Adjustments > Brightness and Contrast
Step 3
This step can be a little tricky, as many people may not access this area of Photoshop very much.
We need to make major color adjustments on a duplicate version of our file. We can easily do this by going to:
Image > Duplicate
Make sure you have the color mode of this image set to Lab Color. This color mode will enable us to access the Channels palette. To do this:
Image > Mode > Lab Color
In the Layers window, there is a tab called Channels. Click on this tab or go to:
Window > Channels
Click on the a channel.
Now we want to blur this channel by adding a Gaussian Blur. To do this, go to:
Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur
In this example, add a blur of around 5 pixels.
Step 6
Keeping in this same a channel, we are going to adjust the Levels. To do this, go to:
Image > Adjustments > Levels
You might want to adjust the left most box only and leave the others in their default positions.
Step 7
Next, we will make our way to the b channel for some minor adjustments. We are going to adjust the levels on the b channel much like we did in the last step. Go to:
Image > Adjustments > Levels
I used the following levels, but you might need to experiment with them a bit, depending on your picture.
Step 8
At the top of your Channels palette you will see a layer titled Lab. Click on that layer. Next, you will want to copy the entire channel to paste into your original file. You can do this by:
Select > All > and then Edit > Copy
You can then close and discard this file.
Step 9
Once in your original file, make sure that you have the Layers tab selected and not theChannels tab.
Now, paste the image you just copied.
Edit > Paste
This will paste a new layer above your original and slightly-edited photo.
Choose Overlay from your Blending Mode dropdown menu.
Step 10
We are now done editing the main photo for our CD cover; it is time to start adding the text and finishing touches.
Being that my online persona and brand fall under the Outlaw name, I decided to name my band “The Outlaws.” You may, of course, use whatever fonts and font sizes you want, but I used the following.
Step 11
I wanted the name of the band to be a little wavy and free flowing, so I selected the Warp Text feature (Layer > Type > Warp Text) and used the following settings:
Next, you will want to reduce the transparency of the text just enough to where you can see through it. I also added a slight outer glow and some additional finishing touches.
Step 12
Using the Oval Marquee tool, create a circle around the main area of your photo. Then you will want to select the inverse area of your image. You can do this by going to:
Select > Inverse
Now add a feather to your selection by going to:
Select > Modify > Feather and add a 30px feather.
With your main photo layer selected, add a somewhat heavy Gaussian Blur (similar to Step 5):
Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur
By now you should have something that looks similar to this:
Step 13
It bothers me that the text overlays a band member‘s head. To fix this, we need to Rasterizethe text of the band‘s name. You can do this by right-clicking on the text layer and selectingLayer > Rasterize > Type.
After that, all you have to do is use the Eraser tool and gently erase the area of the text that overlaps the band member‘s head.
Step 14
For this step I decided to play around with an album title. Any fonts and effects used are entirely up to you. I just used a handwritten style font and a slight outer glow.
Step 15
While the album cover is coming along nicely, it seems to be lacking something. It doesn't yet have that professional and ever-so-elegant look I am after. What I want to do now is maybe add a darker color to the main photo to get rid of a little of the background and put more focus on the band.
To do this, follow the same steps as in Step 12 until you get to the Gaussian Blur step.
Rather than add a blur, I want to fill the Mask with a color.
Create a new Layer above your main photo and fill it with a dark color that matches your photo.
I also adjusted the outer glow I had on the album title to match a little better.
Step 16
I decided I didn't like the way the album title was fitting in with the rest of the CD cover, so I removed it altogether. I think that single act really helped finish off the CD cover.

Hey my name is Daniel Payne, i have an interest in riding, i like to do exercise, and i am very hygienic, i get annoyed easily, but i do not have a bad temper, i enjoy going out for meals, but i also enjoy staying in, My favourite type of food is anything spicy, but not to overly spicy that i have to drink loads and loads to cool it down a little bit, i do not like pictures taken off me unless its for a joke, i dislike my smile, so i try to hide it by joking around, i enjoy keeping up with my fashion, and i enjoy being comfortable in clothes, who doesn't? my favourite place to just sit and chill out is in my bedroom, with my dog, that my girlfriend got me. I enjoy hot warm weather because i personally think it brings family closer together.

That is information about me :)

the type of CD cover that i am after:
I am after i nice portrait picture of me, sort of an emotional capture, and i don't want it over the top, because it will take the attention away from my music, and i want to look like i am sensible and not to full off myself, because i am not that sort off person. i want to keep the style of music in with the cover, so it all looks, calm, and soothing but enjoyable. I don't want a lot of editing in the pictures because i would still like people to see me and understand me. i also wouldn't might some edited ones of different things with emotions with them.

these are some edited and none edited pictures that i am thinking of using.

Theses are some questions that i asked the band members, jack answered most of the questions for the band.
1. What inspired you?
Music that has meaning.
2. What sort of music do you like?
Everything, other then opera.
3. What music do you play in your band?
Quite rock pop style.
4. Do you ever have disagreements?
Everybody has disagreements.
5. Who is your favourite mate in this band?
There all kind off awesome but annoying at the same time.
6. What would be your favourite pose in a photograph?
Throwing a Pokemon ball, hands down
7. What type of cover on other bands CD's do you like?
I like these images that you showed me down below.
8. What type of things would you want on a cover?/ and do you have any ideas?
We would want the whole band in the picture, but a couple of them don't really like photographs so its either something to go with the band and the album titles, and also maybe the actual band doing some joke poses.
9 What are your favourite colours to be focused on putting on the cover?
Cole likes pink, Ted likes green, Mick likes blue, Dan likes orange, Jack likes loads of colours he cant name. But we would like it to be quite colourful.
10. Name other bands that you are a big fan off and would like to meet?
We like to many bands to name, my favourite is blink182, and we also like a couple of solo artists.

these are some different ideas for some positioning for the band.

this one would be good for the lead singer and would be good for close ups.

this would be good if they did rock music, but would be good because it is simple.

this would be good if you do not want to be in the cover, and come up with different ideas would be extra good. They really like this image, but they would like colours put into it so it looks like a party thing, but they would also like to cut more detail out so its got more meaning to it.

this would be a really good idea for if you want to show your instruments in the cover. and its also a good simple idea.

the band has looked at theses images, and the like the different ideas of posing.
still planning the photoshoot.

music brief research

i think this is a really good idea for a cd design i think. i like how the pieces are in random shapes and i like how there were 2 pieces missing.

i really like how there is a metal tear drop coming out of the eye, and i like how the eye is bright and staring at you. and i like how there is the writing and then a light shadow around it.

i like the plain colour and the shadows.

i like how its bright and how there are nice colours round.

i got this picture because it is quite bright and how there all wearing the same outfits and how there are writing on top of there heads.

i like how all the members or the band look equal and how there are bold colours with not a lot of shadows.

i like how the are all posed and how there is a low light in the top right corner, and how this image is quite dark.

i really like the slow picture, and how there is a mess taken in the picture, and i like how there doing something different in the image.

i like this as a small cd cover, just to give off a small idea of the style of the band, and how there is a person just modelling and not in the band.

i like how they are all just chilling on the wall, but also looks like they are thinking of something really important. and how there all staring just above the camera but cant really tell because the light and shadows hide there eyes.

i really like how there is writing on the top, and how after that there is edited writing in the picture, and i like the corners of the picture

i like this because usually a band picture focuses mainly on the lead singer, but with pictures like this it focuses on all the them. and how they are all doing something different.

i really like how it looks really old, and how there are 2 hands holding each other.

i really like how this picture is focused in on him and how there is mainly blue in the image, and how he's not looking at the camera

i like the black and white, and how there all in different places and how there is a darkness in the image. but i don't like how there is a focus on the main man at the front and how they have left out all the other people.

i think this would be a good serious but also jokey image, and that a lot of this explains the type of band that they are.

i like the plain background, and how you can see that there is a light facing towards the band to lighten up there faces.

i really think this is a good idea for the bands images because they look really happy and jumping, and i like how there all jumping in different styles and hight.

i really like how random this picture is and how it doesn't really make that much sense but still looks good.

i really like how there is a picture like ever other picture, but they have changed it so its in the dark, and more sided then the usual pictures, and how there is shadowing on the feet and more so even when its dark.

i really like how this picture looks almost drawn, and how most of it is in black and white, and then there are the faces with makes on in colour and then there hands in the same colour as there heads.

i think this is a simple and styled image, i like how there has been more colour added to the image, and how there are small stars evenly under her eyes, and how it looks like they have added extra green to her eyes.

i really like how she is waving her hair around and how she has a guitar covering her. and i like that it is a simple background in the image.

i really like how this picture is old fashioned and how she has taken in the old fashion into concept and even with the make up and also the slightest bit of clothing showing.

i really like how they have covered there eyes, i like how you can still see who they are, but also hiding some of them, in a good sense.

this is a image from the actual song video and i just thought that it would be fun practice for the band to do this.

i think this would be a really good idea and use the paint colours for emotions at the time, or your personality.

i really like how they have slowed the shutter down and made her face all wierd. i also like that they have blurred the breast area in nearly the same sense they have done with her face, and i really like how they kept her and the background nearly the same.
